"This & That - NC" - Marker & Pencil Illustration.

I've had a few photographs of this wall hanging around for a couple of years now, so I thought I'd give drawing it a go. Those little bricks were murder.

I like the color choices, but I feel like the details could have turned out a little smoother.

Mixed Media Portrait.

I've been working on this drawing/painting off and on for quite a while now as a surprise for a friend, but couldn't decide if it was finished or not. Now that I've taken some time away from it, I'm going to go ahead and call it done. As you may recall from previous posts, this started out as a pencil drawing. Afterwards, it received a dose of fixative followed by glazes of acrylic. I topped it all off with colored pencil. I would have liked the white highlights to pop a little more, but at least it was a lesson in process for next time.

Portrait Photography - Willow Sage.

Little Willow is the new addition to my boyfriend's family, and he is quite the proud uncle. Lucky for me, this gives me the opportunity to gain a little more experience when it comes to photography.

New Watercolors.

After weeks of drawing that have wrecked the callus on my middle finger, I decided to break out the watercolors and try to loosen up a bit. So, I pulled from the bits of bric-a-brac piled around on my studio shelves and did a little painting.

Each painting is 4 1/2" x 5 3/4" on watercolor paper.

I love how petite these paintings are and can imagine them framed in like-fashion and hung as a grouping. I'll have to see what other types of compositions I can come up with to paint next.

Thanks for looking!

The Big 2-9.

This week has been full of unexpected fun. Last weekend, after going out on a long drive with the mister, I returned home to find a house full of friends yelling "surprise!". Sean had worked it out that our friends from out of state were able to come in for six days to spend our vacation/my birthday week with us. I typically live in fear of surprises, but this was just about the coolest thing I could have asked for.

Last night, after everyone had returned home to their respective states, Sean presented me with my other birthday surprise: An Olivetti Lettera 22. The same model of typewriter that Sylvia Plath used to write some of her most famous work. It has to be one of the most thoughtful gifts I have ever received. Not only is it beautiful, but it is fully operational.

I'm fortunate to have such wonderful people in my life. Friends that are happy to spend the week lounging around, cooking good food, and sharing each other's company.

Lots of love for all of the birthday wishes I've received today.

All the best,
Kylene
